Bronny James, the 19-year-old son of LeBron James, recently revealed his all-time favourite basketball player when asked by a reporter. Without hesitation, Bronny paid homage to his father, giving a nod and a smile before answering, “Like, LeBron James or something.” It comes as no surprise that Bronny would choose his dad, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time.
After pondering for a bit, 19-year-old Bronny gave a playful nod to his well-known father as he responded, “Maybe someone like LeBron James,” with a grin. When selecting a jersey number for the University of Southern California, Bronny decided to go with the number 6, which is the same number his dad wore during his stint with the Los Angeles Lakers before switching back to 23 this year. In a video posted by USC Basketball on X (formerly Twitter), Bronny’s amusing response caused his friends to burst out laughing, and their giggles can be heard in the background.
LeBron James has three kids, with the oldest being a teenager named Bronny. He also has a 16-year-old son named Bryce and a 9-year-old daughter named Zhuri. LeBron and his wife celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary on September 14th. Bronny is a highly sought-after high school basketball player, but it’s currently unknown when his first game will be. The new season begins on November 6th, but it’s unclear if Bronny will be playing due to his heart arrest in July. He underwent surgery to fix a congenital heart defect that was deemed significant. Fans have been praising LeBron and his wife for their excellent parenting skills.
Bronny’s family released a statement in August expressing their confidence in his recovery and return to basketball soon. Andy Enfield, USC basketball coach, updated ESPN on September 24 that Bronny was doing well, but could not divulge further information due to his health status. Enfield also praised Bronny for his academic achievements and attendance in class. However, on September 23, Bronny did not join the team for practice, and the university has yet to release any updates on his condition.
On October 1, the annual HoopLA event at USC had a special guest appearance by none other than Bronny, who took the time to meet with his fans. The USC Instagram account shared a video of Bronny’s arrival, where he showcased some dance moves by doing the dougie. LeBron James, Bronny’s father, was also a notable basketball player who won the NBA Rookie of the Year award in 2003 and played high school basketball in Akron, Ohio before turning pro. He has since amassed over 38,000 points, solidifying his spot as the NBA’s all-time leading scorer. Though he is excited to see his son play college basketball, his ultimate goal is to see another James shine in the NBA. In May of this year, Bronny made headlines when he chose to play football for USC, which made LeBron incredibly proud. “It’s even more special for me because it’s the first time someone from outside my family has gone to college,” he shared with Spectrum SportsNet. It’s clear that college wasn’t in the cards for LeBron, but he is happy to see his son pursuing his dreams.
